Chapter 10

Hello everyone:) So I'm kind of facing a slight problem right now. I have so many ideas for an amazing story, but just not sure how to fit them into the story line. No need to worry, I got it covered:p

   Comments are warmly welcomed, I don't bite:p
Oh and Viva La Vida by Coldplay really inspired me for this chapter. It's old, but gold:D

I woke up to the faint moonlight streaming through my window. I felt wide awake, as if I had slept for 10 hours straight. I turned on the lamp next to my bed, my eyes adjusting to the warm yellow light. I glanced at the clock. 4:35am. I wasn't supposed to be up for another 2 hours. I felt a dry ache in my throat, my nerves tingling. My nervous system was craving for a cigarette.

I sighed, trying my best to ignore the uneasy feeling. The last time I smoked was at that one night at Coffee Republic, and the withdrawal symptoms had worn off a few months after that. But, at times like these, I get a pang of nostalgia for it. I breathed in deeply, reminding myself that I didn't need one. I knew that I was still a work in progress, and I was okay with that.

I lit up some incense, placing it on my desk. I enjoyed the comforting smell of the cherry blossom burning, and watching the smoke dance around in the air, before evaporating. I opened the doors to my balcony and sat on the bench, gazing up at the clear night sky.

I sat there, thinking about life. I watched the sun slowly rise, the rays of red and orange sunlight bursting out of the horizon. I watched the sky get lighter and lighter, turning a faded shade of blue. I finally tore my gaze from the sky and went back inside, climbing back into bed. I checked the time again. 5:00am. I  slowly shut my eyes and fell back into a light, blissful sleep.

''Sara!'' My housekeeper, Maria, yelled, abruptly ending my sleep. My eyelids fluttered open, and I slowly sat up, my bones aching. I said good morning to her and went to go take a nice, warm shower. I wrapped my body and hair in a towel, and went to go get ready.

I brushed my teeth, then slipped on my school uniform and buttoned my shirt, making sure the collar was straight and my sleeves were neatly rolled up. I slipped on Yousef's necklace and hid it under my school shirt. I did my hair, straightening it and tying it up in a high pony tail. I grabbed my phone and put it in my large brown Proenza satchel bag, and placed the leather strap on my neck. I applied some light pink lip gloss and examined myself in the mirror. I flipped my ponytail, my long hair draping down my back. I smiled, feeling satisfied with how I looked.

I ran downstairs to the kitchen, seeing my dad sitting on the dining table, reading the Arab Times and sipping coffee. ''Good morning, Baba'' I said and kissed his forehead. He nodded and smiled, absorbed in the article he was reading. I poured myself some coffee, and grabbed a red apple. I leaned against the kitchen counter and quietly munched on my apple, waiting for Fahad to come downstairs. I checked bbm, eyeing everyone's broadcasts about the new school year.

''BOO!'' Fahad yelled as he sneaked up behind me, causing me to drop my phone on the marble counter. I sighed, creasing my eyebrows in stress. ''Good morning'' He laughed, and made his way to the car. Amal came running downstairs, probably nervous for her new school year. I said goodbye to my dad, and followed Fahad and Amal out the door.

Twenty minutes later, we reached school. Fahad quickly ran away, going to go catch up with his friends. It was his senior year, and I could tell he was pretty excited about it. I walked into school with Amal, searching for the girls. I spotted them sitting by the bench, and quickly made my way towards them. ''Hello, ladies!'' I said, my lips stretching into a wide smile. I sat down next to them, and we all started chatting. I left them and went to my newly assigned locker, putting all of my school supplies neatly in it. I heard my phone vibrate in my bag, and found a bbm from Yousef.

           School/YousefAlX: Omg!
           At School/SaraAlX: What??
School/YousefAlX:  I think I just saw my best friend! :D
School/YousefAlX: And she looks really pretty!

I giggled at his reply, playing along with his game.

             At School/SaraAlX: Really:o
School/YousefAlX: Yeah, and I'm standing right behind her! :D

I quickly turned around, seeing Yousef standing right behind me, with a big smile on his face.

''Good morning!'' He exclaimed, unlocking his locker, which was right next to mine. ''Good morning'' I replied, laughing. His hair was cut since I last saw him, showing off his masculine face. I looked at him from the corner of my eye. His white polo shirt was fitting on his body, hanging over his faded school pants. He was wearing bright red toms, not bothering to follow the school rules of black shoes. I shifted my gaze back to my locker. we sat on the floor, having a quiet conversation. He pulled out his Ipod, giving me one of the earphones. I slipped it in my ear, hearing the familiar melody flow into my ears.

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the diceFeel the fear in my enemy's eyesListen as the crowd would sing"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"
One minute I held the keyNext the walls were closed on meAnd I discovered that my castles standUpon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringingRoman Cavalry choirs are singingBe my mirror, my sword and shieldMy missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explainOnce you go there was neverNever an honest wordAnd that was when I ruled the world
It was the wicked and wild windBlew down the doors to let me inShattered windows and the sound of drumsPeople couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries waitFor my head on a silver plateJust a puppet on a lonely stringOh who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringingRoman Cavalry choirs are singingBe my mirror, my sword and shieldMy missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explainI know Saint Peter won't call my nameNever an honest wordBut that was when I ruled the world
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringingRoman Cavalry choirs are singingBe my mirror, my sword and shieldMy missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explainI know Saint Peter won't call my nameNever an honest wordBut that was when I ruled the world

As soon as the song was over, I heard the class bell ring, interrupting my peaceful state of mind. I got up, said bye to Yousef, and made my way to my first class, English. I sat next to Shoug, who was  bbming Faris the whole class.

The rest of the day was pretty interesting. I felt like a new person this year. I had Chemistry with Omar and Turki, which was always funny, Math with Amal, Physics with Yousef and Jana, History with Lulu and Ghalia, and Study hall with Yousif and Faris. The other classes we were scheduled for that day, like Art, French, and Social Studies ended up being canceled, so we all just walked around the school, looking for any new hiding spots to skip in. I was glad that in almost every class, except Art and Social Studies, I had at least one friend with me.

At the end of the day, Ghalia came up to me. ''Sara!'' She said, running her fingers through her hair. ''Are you going to Dana Al X's party on Thursday?'' She asked me. ''Is it mixed?'' I asked her, unsure about Dana's parties. I heard they were a lot of fun, but both boys and girls attended. ''Yup, will your dad say yes?'' She asked, hopefully. ''I'll ask him!'' I said, turning to hear the honk of my driver. I waved goodbye to Ghalia and climbed into the Tahoe, next to Fahad and Amal.

When I got home, I found my father in the living room, watching the news. ''Baba?'' I said, approaching him. ''Can I go to a party on Thursday?'' I asked him, hoping he would say yes. ''Is it mixed?'' He asked wearily. ''Yes.'' I said nervously, not sure how my father would react. ''Okay, as long as Fahad comes with you, then no problem.'' He answered and smiled at me, turning his attention back to the news. I sighed in relief, and went upstairs to my room. I bbmed Ghalia and told her that I was coming to the party. I knew for a fact that Fahad was coming, because his status was ''Can't wait for Thursday!'' with a party emoticon.

at 9:20 I climbed back into bed, worn out from the first day of school. I was happy that everything was going well. My eyes fluttered closed, sleep overpowering me. I couldn't wait for Thursday.
